Martial Arts
The 300 jumping jacks, 200 pushups, 100 situps as a warmup will get rid of any addiction. Trust me, when you are done with the workout, you feel high for 2 days. Your senses are heightened. Time begins to slow down, days are longer. You begin to notice little details you never noticed before. You begin to notice the cool breeze, the dew in the morning, the bright and warm sun, the subtle fragrances and odors. Good and bad, you begin to accept it for what it is without judgement. You begin to appreciate and cherish everything that you have, rather than all that you don't have. Something bad happens, you don't care, you just feel like smiling. You start noticing people's strengths, however miniscule they may be, rather than always looking at their dark sides. And NYC is full of dark energy. I don't know how to describe it, but its almost like you are witnessing life, rather than getting caught up in it and all its shortcomings.
I've enrolled Taekwondo. I used to be a brown belt as a child. Its more difficult now because I have more weight to move around. I would join a kungfu dojo if one was around where I live or work, but don't know of any. The shortcoming of Taekwondo is thats its geared for competition, something I don't need more of. But the intensive workout sure does the trick...especially when you are sitting with your legs spread apart, and the teacher comes and pushes down on your back making sure your chest touches the floor! Ouch! But not that bad..it seems my muscles have memory. I adjusted in 2 weeks. I am very flexible and able to do all the kicks. For the all the quitters and want to be quitters, please do something like martial arts. But really believe in it, not just the kicks. Listen about the yin/yang and understand it. Its not hard.
