Callahan Expected To Plead Guilty

In a statement released today through his solicitor, the BBC has learned that the former Inspector Callahan is expected to plead guilty to charges of sexual assault committed in the London underground. Callahan had been arrested and charged with thrusting his groin into the buttocks of young female commuters riding the packed trains in the tube. Callahan's actions were exactly the type of crime that he had been charged with preventing in his position with the British Transport Police.

The normal penalty for somebody who has been charged with this type of crime for the first time is probation plus a stiff fine. However, given the position of public trust that Callahan held with the Transport Police, the court is expected to issue a more severe sentence, which is expected to include jail time and a much higher monetary fine than is normal. The sentence will also more than likely require that Callahan seek treatment from a licensed psychotherapist.

In the statement released by his solicitor, Callahan expressed remorse for the shame that he has brought upon his family and friends. He indicated that he has already voluntarily sought out psychological counseling to address his once secret but now very open addiction to "chikan", a Japanese word used to describe the perverse desire to touch the bodies of strange females, often in crowded public places, in sexually explicit and unacceptable ways.

Callahan admitted that in his investigation of this perverse activity known as "chikan", he became intrigued by the very criminals it was his duty to apprehend, and became caught up in what they do. He noted that his investigation took him to an internet message board called "Ayashi BBS" where his reading of stories posted there, and subsequent experimentation, ultimately led to his violation of the public trust. Callahan described "chikan" as being extremely addictive, as if one were hooked on a powerful drug like crack. The BBC shall continue to report on this story as new developments arise.
