About Plagiarism

Plagiarism . . . it's a very, very simple thing to commit . . . and avoid. If you write ANYTHING that belongs to somebody else and hold it out to another as your own writing (even simply by not acknowledging where you got it from with mere silence), then you have plagiarized. It's that simple. Ask the many who have been kicked out of university for plagiarism over the decades. As with the law, ignornace of what constitutes plagiarism is no excuse (but rarely is the ignorance of the plagiarist really at issue . . . they know what they have done).

There's the old saying, "When in doubt, footnote." The standards in writing, quality, and credibility have gone WAY up on this message board since I have been around. I'll not see those standards revert back to crap on Master Ayashi's lifelong work while I'm here. If you don't believe the quality is better, then do this simple test. Take a look at the stories that were recognized for monthly awards in 2002, then compare them with those recognized in 2003. You will see a VAST and unmistakeable improvement in overall quality. I'm not here to put down anybody's writing, but overall we're DEFINITELY getting better, more original stuff these days. For you serious and committed "chikan literary critics" out there, we cannot go backwards.
