I don't think you can really compare the outbreak of the 1918 pandemic with what is happening here and now, for one there wasn't the scale of the medical resources at work as there is now and they didn't understand the scale of that pandemic, we have countries around the globe putting their immense biological knowledge together to beat this, I mean the CDC wasn't around then, many countries didn't even understand the concept of a pandemic.

Simply because of the global impact it is having on the world economy I think that will drive the search for a cure, make no mistake they quote the death toll, but its the economy that is really driving the push for a cure.

I don't believe it will have that many waves either because of the sheer global push for a vaccine, I think there will be a credible vaccine ready for testing by the end of the year too
